Environmental Policy

Large organisations tend to make a lot of noise about their care for the environment and about reducing their "carbon footprint". It led us to thinking about what impact our products may have on the environment compared with similar, but inferior copies imported from India or China.

Based in Walsall, as we have been since 1855 in the Heart of England, we operate under the Environmental Protection Act. A number of years ago we invested in a modern Electric Induction furnace. It is very efficient and our emissions to the atmosphere, (which are tested regularly) are minimal.

We are continuing to invest with the help of the Carbon Trust and our latest project will help reduce our Carbon Footprint even further. Briefly, this involves the conversion of our annealing process from Gas Oil to Natural Gas. We will soon be in a position to "sell" Carbon Credits to other Carbon producers.

In addition, as we are the only UK producers of Black Ironmongery our products have a much shorter journey to our markets, something that large organizations conveniently tend to forget when promoting themselves as Green. It is therefore quite easy to say that Kirkpatrick Black Ironmongery is more environmentally friendly than cheap, imported copies. We sell products which do not cost the Earth.
